This is just the sort of thing I long thought somebody should do! Congratulations on superb use of technology!!!

Thank you!!!! After 10+ years of professional playing and teaching, I have finally found THE resource for audition preparation (outside of good ole' fashioned practice). I think that this is one of the most original and helpful approaches to the standard excerpts that has been created. THANK YOU!!!!

Great work! I have book-marked this site and since I have my computer in my home studio, I will most certainly use your site in teaching my students.

Very useful! Including recordings of a number of different interpretations to listen to while seeing the part is a great idea! One thing I'd like to see: the names of the horn players for each audio file. I know it would be difficult to find in some cases but where possible would be quite interesting.

A number of people have requested the names of performers. I've considered this, but as this person states, it would be difficult. Most albums do not list the performers and many do not even list the date or year of the performance. In some cases an educated guess would be possible (i.e. Chicago/Solti is probably Clevenger, Chicago/Reiner is probably Farkas), but I wouldn't feel comfortable listing the performer of an excerpt unless I was relatively certain that it was accurate.

Fantastic site! I love listening to the different versions of each excerpt. The recording of the Midsummer Night's Dream by the Cologne Radio Symphony is absolutely enchanting. Such beautiful playing within a framework of precise tempo and rhythm. Thanks for a great website!

I probably should've gone to bed two hours ago, but I've been up looking through your site. Wow! First there was Pottag, then Mel Bay, then Thompson, and now this. I wish I could've had access to this while I was doing my undergrad. I imagine that your book and CD's will likely become a staple in many horn studios, should you decide to market it. The educational potential of this is immense. I've already forwarded the site address to all of my private horn students and several other horn instructors I know. You're hard work is VERY much appreciated!

Great site! As others have said, it's well overdue. It's obvious you have put a LOT of work into this, and the site's very logically and cleanly laid out. Congratulations on an impressive addition to horn resources available on the internet. For what it's worth, I'll be adding a link from my Horn FAQ to your site.

I am somewhat concerned about copyright on the excerpts (those few which still may actually be under copyright protection, anyway) and especially the recordings.

I have looked into the copyright issue. Given the non-profit and educational nature of this site, and the fact that I only offer a small segment of each recording and excerpt, I believe that it falls within the boundaries of fair use.

Great job. That goes on my list of required resources for my students here. It runs smoothly, and it's a fantastic resource... I hope you keep the site up and expand it. It could become a model for the new kind of excerpt book.

Thanks for all your hard work. I checked out a couple of the excerpts, and your site will be most helpful for me. I am an amateur horn player, 43 years old, and I'm preparing for an orchestra audition for one of the community groups in my area. I particularly appreciate having several examples to listen to for each excerpt. That took a lot of work on your part. I have been playing in community bands for most of my post-college years, and trying to branch into the orchestra world is a new experience for me. I will certainly help to make the horn players I know aware of your site. Good work!

My son (the horn player) and I believe that this is a GREAT site! It finally allows me to understand some of what he is talking about and has learned.

I just wanted to thank you for an extremely helpful and convenient source. It's great to know that we have a wide "family" of horn players dedicated to the classic and time consuming task of learning this standard material. Thanks a million.

Your website is incredible!!! What a freakin' fantastic idea! Good for you!!! Let me know when the actual book and CD's are available and I'll be sure to order a copy from you!

You are an incredible dork.

Fair enough.
